# How do I choose a software development company in India?

Choose the company that understands your business problem before talking about technology, gives a written scope and quotation, shows working software at every stage, explains who owns the code and data, and stays to support what it builds. Price matters, but a cheap project that does not solve the problem is the most expensive one.

## Which questions should you ask?

- What problem do you think we are solving, in one sentence?

- What will the first version include, and what comes later?

- How will we see progress, and how often?

- Who owns the code and the data at the end?

- What happens after launch: support, fixes, hosting and changes?

- How do you protect personal data under India’s DPDP Act?

## What must the quotation include?

- The features of the first version, in plain language.

- The timeline, in stages.

- Payments linked to working software.

- What is included after launch, and for how long.

- What is not included.

## What are the red flags?

- A price before anyone has understood your problem.

- No written scope, or a scope full of technical terms you cannot check.

- No working software to see until the very end.

- Unclear ownership of the code and data.

## Why does data protection matter now?

India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 were notified on 13 November 2025, with most obligations applying from May 2027. Software that handles customer or employee data should be built with consent, security and deletion in mind from day one.
